“Shared Genes”—Sam and Ted Nicolosi—is an instrumental acoustic guitar duo based in the Rochester, New York, area. They are inspired by, among others, the world-famous British New Age/Jazz group "Acoustic Alchemy," who appears annually in Rochester at Milestones. Much of their other inspiration comes from The Beatles, The Ventures, Tommy Emmanuel, and several other classic rock groups.

Sam and Ted play acoustic guitars to interpret important tunes from a variety of musical periods. They do not sing, so their instrumentals are more intricate and actually create “vocal” harmonies. Their arrangements of these classic songs are played with just two guitars and take on a totally new flavor while retaining the familiar qualities of the original tune.

The duo’s play list includes compositions by Acoustic Alchemy, America, The Beatles, The Bangles, The Byrds, Glen Campbell, Eric Clapton, John Denver, The Eagles, FireFall, Glen Miller, Carl Perkins, Santana, Simon and Garfunkel and the Ventures. That's quite a range!

The youngest member of Shared Genes, Ted Nicolosi, is the lead guitar and has a repertoire of over 200 songs. He plays the George Harrison lead guitar sections for songs such as Something, And I Love Her, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and does the complete main section of Here Comes The Sun. And whom else do you know who plays acoustic versions of California surf songs by the Ventures?

Ted has grabbed the attention of some famous people—namely, Tommy Emmanuel, Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson's former guitar player), Mason Williams, Greg Carmichael (from Acoustic Alchemy) and locally, Doug Emblidge, Scott Spezzano, Frank Deblaise and Scott Regan.
